Local fees and import duties in Bonaire
Once the ship has arrived in Kralendijk harbor or the plane has landed at Bonaire International Airport and the VAT-free products have been cleared through customs on Bonaire, you will receive a message that you can pick up your shipment from our agent Cavalier Logistics/PPS. When picking up the goods you always have to pay the local costs. These local costs consist of the trade/customs costs plus ABB.
Trade/customs costs Bonaire
The handling/customs costs are the costs for unpacking your shipment, checking your Dutch or European products, preparing your shipment and clearing so that the products may be released into free circulation. In plain language, these are the costs incurred so that you can "finally" take home the products you have been waiting for.
Trade/customs costs in USD are as follows (excluding 6% abb);
-Does your shipment consist of one or more package(s) delivered via ocean freight;
49.00USD for the first package.
Each additional package is 2.50USD.
-Does your shipment consist of one or more package(s) delivered via air freight;
49.00USD for the first package.
Each additional package is 2.50USD.
-Large shipment via sea freight; from 1m³ onwards
83USD for the first cubic meter in handling/customs charges.
plus 40.00USD per additional cubic meter.
-Larger shipment via air freight; from 62kg onwards
83USD handling/customs charges per shipment.
plus 0.40USD per kg.
-Exceptions to the above;
If the CIF value (cif value = value of goods + transport insurance + transport cost) is under 100 USD, customs charges are 0 USD.
If an envelope/package via air freight is under 3 kg and the CIF value is under 100 USD then the handling/customs charges are 12.50USD.
If an envelope/package via air freight is under 3kg and the CIF value is above 125 USD then the handling/customs charges are 18.00USD.
For shipments above 150kg via air freight, there is a Heavy weight surcharge of 50 USD.
Import duties Bonaire
Then import duties. Import duties are the taxes on products imported from abroad. These taxes are there to create a threshold by which Bonaire tries to protect its own market from products from abroad. The rate of import duties you must pay is set at zero (0%) for all goods. So you pay no import duties on Bonaire on the VAT-free Dutch/European products. You only have to pay general spending tax (ABB) on these products.
General spending tax (ABB);
The rate of ABB you must pay, with a few exceptions, for all goods on Bonaire is 8%;
Some exceptions are passenger cars (25%) and very clean passenger cars (0%).
ABB is always calculated over the CIF value (CIF value = value of goods + any transport insurance + transport costs).
Example calculation
This calculation is a sample calculation in Euro`s including all costs for a small volume shipment (1cbm or less);
Suppose you want to buy a laptop on Bol.com, worth € 1500.
From that goes 21% VAT to begin with, so that already saves €260.33.
The delivery cost from Bol.com to our warehouse is free from €20.
To ship your order VAT-free, seaworthy packed as a package and from the Shop Plus Ship warehouse to Bonaire you pay €102.21 for this example.
The ABB (8%) is €118.39.
The handling/customs cost for this package is 49USD converted €42.56.
From this comes 6% abb worth €2.55.

From that, to begin with, 21% VAT comes off, so that already saves €260.33.

The ABB (8%) is €118.39.
The handling/customs cost for this pallet is 83USD converted €72.36.
From this comes 6% abb worth €4.34.
