Local costs and import duties on St. Maarten
Once the ship has arrived in the port of Philipsburg or the plane has landed at Princess Juliana International Airport and the VAT-free products have been cleared through customs in St. Maarten you will receive a message that you can pick up your shipment at our agent Cavelier logistics. When picking up the goods you always have to pay the local costs. These local costs consist of the trade/customs costs excluding import duties.
Trade/customs costs Sint Maarten
The handling/customs costs are the costs for unpacking your shipment, checking your Dutch or European products, preparing your shipment and clearing so that the products may be released into free circulation. In plain language, these are the costs incurred so that you can "finally" take home the products you have been waiting for.
Theact/custom charges in SXM are as follows;
-If your shipment consists of package(s)/pallets delivered via air freight, you will pay;
From 1 - 10 kg, 25.00 USD
From 11 - 50 kg, 35.00 USD
From 51 -150 kg, 45.00 USD
From 150 - 250 kg, 55 USD
Above 250kg, 55 USD + each kg (more than 250kg) a surcharge of 0.35 USD per kg.
-If your shipment consists of package(s)/pallets delivered via ocean freight, you will pay;
From 1 - 10 kg, 25.00 USD
From 11 - 50 kg, 35.00 USD
From 51 - 150 kg, 45.00 USD
From 150 - 250 kg, 55 USD
Above 250kg, 55 USD + each kg (more than 250kg) a surcharge of 0.35 USD per kg.
Import duties Sint Maarten
Then import duties. Import duties are the taxes on products imported from abroad. St. Maarten is a tax-free island. This means that you can import products from abroad tax free. In short, there are no import duties to be paid on Sint Maarten when importing European products.
Example calculation
This calculation is a sample calculation in Euro`s including all costs;
Suppose you want to buy furniture from Ikea, worth € 1500.00.
From that 21% VAT is deducted, so that already saves €260.33.
Ikea has shipping costs of €39
To get your order VAT-free, seaworthily packed on 1 pallet and shipped from the Shop Plus Ship warehouse to Philipsburg you pay €103 .50
The import duty is €0
The handling/customs fee for this pallet is 55USD which is converted to €49.03
Total price €1431.20
